Richard Newman

For Richard Newman, the idea of “finding your voice” has personal meaning. As a young child, Richard was shy, introverted and believed there was something wrong with him. He ultimately learned to overcome this challenge in the most unique of ways while living at a Tibetan monastery as a young adult.

“For me, it’s been a bit of a journey, and somewhat an unlikely journey, which I like to share because if people have something that it’s a dream or an ambition for themselves, to do something that seems somewhat unlikely, for them to achieve, then I hope this message could inspire them…”

Joanne Peterson

Sometimes life sends you down a path that you never expected. That’s exactly what happened to Joanne Peterson, who went from being an Executive Secretary to Founder and Executive Director of an organization that is helping families dealing with addiction and recovery. Motivated by her own personal experiences, she was empowered to use her voice to bring about change.

“I said, ‘No, there’s got to be another way. I know there is, I need, we need to learn about this, instead of just sitting around and getting resources. I wanted an education, at this point, on addiction and why this happens. And how do you beat it…”

Dr. Felicia Speed

May is Mental Health Awareness Month in the United States and I am joined by Dr. Felicia Speed who has a lot of experience in this topic of mental health as the Vice President of Social Work Services at Fresenius Medical Care North America.

“I decided that this was where I needed to be because after I lost three family members, within a matter of six months to suicide, I knew that this was something that I want to be able to touch other people. So if I can help save three lives, with the three lives that were lost, then I know that my work is not in vain,” says Dr. Speed.
